① Definition of Catalyst

Photocatalyst is an eco-friendly catalytic material with semiconductor ceramic nanopowders (nano titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, tungsten oxide, zirconia, etc.) as core functional components, which are coated or in-situ grown on the surface of porous substrates.Under irradiation of ultraviolet or visible light, photocatalytic reactions take place, enabling multiple functions including harmful gas degradation, broad-spectrum sterilization, biotoxin decomposition, deodorization, anti-fouling and water purification.

② Photocatalytic Mechanism

Light irradiation excites the catalyst to generate highly oxidative active free radicals such as hydroxyl radicals (·OH), superoxide anion radicals (O₂·) and active hydrogen peroxide. Their oxidation capacity is equivalent to high temperature of 3600K, which can break unstable chemical bonds of organic matter and destroy microbial cell structures to realize harmless decomposition.
